When Carol met Raskel, he was a basset hound with a string of failed adoptions behind him. By every metric, he was a long shot—returned repeatedly for being too much or not enough. But anyone who spent any time with him knew the truth: Raskel was charming, lovable, and had a quirky sense of humor all his own. Carol didn't pass him over. Raskel settled into her home like he had always belonged there—proof, as she often says, that the right home doesn't have to be the first one. Sometimes it's the third or fourth.

Carol has built a career rooted in helping people feel heard, bringing groups together around shared goals, and fighting for the underdog. Friends and colleagues agree that she has a gift for finding common ground and building connections. It is a skill that translates naturally to animal rescue; the patience required to help people hear each other is the same patience an "unadoptable" dog needs to be seen clearly.

Inspired by the dog who beat the odds, Carol founded Raskel's Rescue on a simple principle: every animal deserves a chance—and, if needed, another, until the right home is found. The dogs others gave up on, the seniors, the shy ones, and those with complicated histories all have a place here.

Today, Raskel's legacy lives on through Peaches and Teddy, two basset hounds with rough beginnings of their own. Peaches is a diva, fully aware of her own beauty, while Teddy is a patient and sweet gentleman. Together, they share a home with Carol and her husband, who have long since accepted that the humans in the house are out-ranked. Carol still insists she didn't rescue Raskel; he rescued her, and through her, hundreds more.
