How to Safely Rehome Your Pet: A Guide from Raskel's Rescue

We understand that sometimes circumstances change and families must make the difficult decision to find a new home for their pet.

Raskel's Rescue is unable to post about privately owned animals, arrange adoptions, communicate with potential adopters, or accept responsibility for the rehoming process. However, we are happy to provide general rehoming suggestions and check potential adopters against our internal database for documented concerns.

Tips for Finding a New Home

Before rehoming your pet, consider reaching out to:

• Trusted friends, relatives, neighbors, and coworkers

• Your veterinarian, groomer, trainer, or pet sitter

• Breed-specific rescue organizations

• Community rehoming groups

• Reputable owner-to-owner rehoming websites

• Local social media groups

When creating a rehoming post, include clear and honest information about your pet, such as:

• Age, breed, size, and sex

• Spay or neuter status

• Vaccination and medical history

• Personality and activity level

• House-training and obedience skills

• Experience with children, dogs, cats, and other animals

• Any medical or behavioral concerns

• The type of home that would be the best fit

Please be truthful about all known behavior and medical history. This helps protect your pet and gives the new family the information they need to make a responsible decision.

Screening Potential Adopters

We strongly recommend speaking with potential adopters before allowing them to meet your pet.

Consider asking:

• Who lives in the home?

• Are there other animals in the home?

• Do they rent or own their home?

• If renting, does their landlord allow pets?

• Who will be responsible for the animal's daily care?

• How many hours will the pet normally be alone?

• Have they owned pets before?

• What happened to their previous pets?

• Who is their veterinarian?

• Are they willing to return the animal to you if the placement does not work out?

Meet in a safe location, and do not feel pressured to make an immediate decision. It is okay to decline an adopter if the home does not feel like the right fit.

Raskel's Rescue may check a potential adopter's information against our internal records for documented concerns.

To request a check, please provide:

• The potential adopter's full legal name

• Current address

• Telephone number

• Email address

• Any previous names or addresses, if available

Providing incomplete information may prevent us from identifying the correct person.

Our database check is limited to information available within our records. It is not a criminal background check, home inspection, approval, recommendation, or guarantee that a person will be a responsible pet owner.

The pet's current owner remains solely responsible for communicating with potential adopters, evaluating the home, arranging meetings, making the final placement decision, and transferring ownership. Raskel's Rescue does not take ownership, custody, control, or legal responsibility for privately rehomed animals.
