Is your rescue dog goofy? Glamorous? Suspiciously good at making eye contact when food is nearby? This is their moment. Raskel's Rescue is hosting a rescue dog show on Friday, May 16th at Agave Mexican Grill in Bluffton — and every rescue dog who enters wins a prize.

What This Event Is

On May 16th, Raskel's Rescue is taking over the patio at Agave Mexican Grill in Bluffton for an afternoon celebrating something that deserves a party: rescue dogs. The event is a lighthearted, community-centered dog show with fun categories, lots of laughs, raffle prizes, and great food from one of Bluffton's favorite restaurants. It's the kind of afternoon that's good for dogs, good for their people, and good for the animals still waiting for homes at Raskel's Rescue.

This is not a formal obedience competition or a breed show. There are no points for conformation, no ribbons for perfect heeling, and no judges who take themselves too seriously. This is a celebration of the particular charm that rescue dogs have — the odd quirks, the goofy personalities, the dogs who have been through something and come out the other side as someone's whole world. Come ready to laugh, cheer on your fellow rescue dog owners, and let your dog be exactly who they are.

Open to All Rescue Dogs — Not Just Raskel's

One thing worth saying clearly: this event is open to every rescue dog in the Lowcountry, regardless of where they came from. You do not need to have adopted from Raskel's Rescue to participate. If your dog came from a municipal shelter, a rescue in another state, a backyard situation that needed intervention, or anywhere in between — they are welcome here. The only requirement is that your dog is a rescue. The rest is just showing up.

This also means the event is a genuine community gathering, not a promotional event for one organization. Rescue dog owners from Bluffton, Hilton Head Island, Hardeeville, Beaufort, and anywhere else in the Lowcountry are welcome and encouraged to come. The more rescue dogs, the better the afternoon.

Every Dog Who Enters Wins a Prize

There are competitive categories with prizes and there are raffles with great prizes throughout the afternoon — but the most important detail is this: every rescue dog who enters the show goes home with something. This is not a consolation policy. It's a statement about what this event is actually for. These dogs have already done the hard thing — surviving whatever they survived before finding their people. Coming to an afternoon event and being celebrated for it is the least they deserve. They all win. No exceptions.

Agave Mexican Grill is a well-loved Bluffton restaurant, and having the event there means the food situation is handled. While your dog enjoys their moment in the sun, you can enjoy Agave's menu — which is worth the trip on its own. Come hungry. Stay for the show. There are worse ways to spend a Friday afternoon in the Lowcountry.

Supporting Raskel's Rescue

The event benefits Raskel's Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue based in Hardeeville, SC. Raskel's holds the official government contract with the City of Hardeeville for animal control services and specializes in behavioral rehabilitation — taking in animals that other organizations don't have the capacity to support and investing the time and patience needed to get them to the right home. In 2024, they took in 451 animals and placed 438 in forever homes with zero euthanizations. Raffle ticket purchases and any other event contributions go directly toward continuing that work.

And if you happen to come to this event without a rescue dog and leave thinking it might be time to change that — Raskel's Rescue is open for adoptions Wednesday through Sunday, 11am to 4pm, at 11642 Speedway Blvd in Hardeeville. Just saying.
